Good Morning

I wish to build a model Hovercraft and have bought a 12volt centrifugal fan for lift with the following characteristics

Voltage 12volts
Current 15amps
Electrical power 180 watts
Outlet exhaust velocity 16.7meters per sec
Outlet exhaust area 0.01square meters
Inlet area 0.01 square meters
Inlet velocity 5 meters/sec

Volumetric flow rate (no load) 0.17 cubic meters per second

From this data I would like to be able to calculate the following variables
In a relationship

Gross weight (GW), skirt foot print area(SFA), ride hide (RH)

In the form

Gross weight(GW) in Newtons = Constant K(from above data) times function of SFA & RH

I.e. GW= K(Func(SFA,RH))

I appreciate that I have not expressed this using normal mathematical convention but hope there is enough information for some help in getting an answer.

Many Thanks all

David Hills
davidhills@riverford.co.uk

Hi there.
I am trying to identify the model of this Hovercraft that I will be listing on eBay next week. Its a Neoteric, believed to be a 1989 model, but there are no distinguishing model numbers on the unit. I'm also trying to treack down any specs for this model. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. I sent an email to Neoteric, but never got a response.

I am in the middle of restoring one of the older VW powered side by side hovercrafts and am glad to see that plans are still offered (am sending my check for them as we speak.
One question - do the plans list part sources? The push-pull cables for the air scoops have frozen with time and no amount of penetrating oil seems to be able to loosen them.
thanks,
John Martin

(original post by 290190 on 10-SEP-2004)

hi. i am interested in building a hovercraft that would primarily be used for ice fising. i have a couple questions i would like some answers to.

My first question is what size of engine i would need for a projest like this and approxamently how much this would cost. The second question is about reverseing and braking. from what i have read you at Neoterichhovercraft are the only people in the would that have a reverse on your hovercrafts. i am wondering if i used a system somewhat like yours if it would be legal to do this. i am also wondering if i need reverse and bracking on my hovercraft. The third question is if haveing 2 smaller engines (1 for trust,1 for lift) instead of 1 larger one be cheaper and if it would work. My last question is if i need a license to operate a hovercraft in canada.

(original post by Anonymous on 19-JUL-2004)

I was wandering if there was a way to get inexpensive plans for a hovercraft because im on a very strict $500 budget. If any1 can help me that would be great...

Also i had a thought on a drive shaft..
since im on a strict budget i was gonna use 1 motor to drive it all. how can i do this? gear box? is there a certain place to put the engine?
i was thinking like this for the drive shaft
taking the engine in the front and then putting a gear box rite below the engine(engine is a verticle shaft) then from the gear box goes 2 drive shafts 1 down to the lift and 1 to the back of the hovercraft to the thrust. is there such a gear box? if so how can i make it?

please help me out
email me at dtkrall@comcast.net

I have a wiring problem. I found the bilge pump on. All switches where off. After checking under dash moved the fuse wire to the pump switch and pump stopped.?? Moved it again and it starts.?? Must be wires crossing over back up the line.??? A hard one to see in all wires. Have anyone else had this happen.???

While flying my Racer the engine stalled at about 35-40 mph. I lost all lift and the front nosed into the lake and stopped almost instantly. Unfortunately I kept going after smashing into the handlebars and front deck. Does anybody have a way to recover from this situation without the damage I experienced to me and the front of the craft?
